MEC, Motlhabane Pleaded with Coligny Community and
Police to End the Protests and Return
Calm to the Area
North West Community Safety and Transport Managemen
t MEC, Dr. Mpho Motlhabane has
made a plea to the community leaders and the SAPS t
o work around the clock jointly in an
earnest attempt to return; calm, peace and stabilit
y to the Coligny community.
"This rampant violence and arson needs to stop. Nor
malcy must be restored. Schools,
Government services and Shops must reopen so that l
ife and business in the community
resume as expected": said Motlhabane
It has since emerged that the community members, in
cluding the family, and certain
organisations have decided to lodge urgent appeal a
pplications against a court decision to
grant bail to the two men accused of murdering Matl
homolo Moshoeu.
Two white men have been charged with killing the 16
-year-old by throwing him out of a
moving bakkie. They, however, argue that Moshoeu died after he jumped out of their moving
vehicle.
Motlhabane said that the state
will seek legal advice on the options available in
providing the
necessary support to the family because of their in
digent status. We will do this within the
prescripts of our laws as a country. We respect the
court decision but our disappointment
and dissatisfaction should be registered.
“As government, representing the will of the people
, we will support the victims family and
offering support were necessary”
He has appealed to the community members to stop th
e protest, avoid vandalising private
and or public property, respect the rule of law and
allow the legal processes to continue.
Motlhabane has also asked residents to allow their
children to return to school and shops to
reopen for business on Wednesday.
The Police intervention units were also urged to co
ntinue monitoring the volatile situation on a 24/7
basis.
